OneBeacon® offers the choice of two CDHPs (Consumer Driven Health Plans); which are health plans with a higher deductible with either a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA), and with cost sharing based on a coinsurance percentage rather than more traditional copays for all medical services and prescription medications.
While there are similarities in these plans, we have provided a chart that summarizes many differences for your review.

NEW PROGRAM – VITALS SMARTSHOPPER
Employees and their families who are enrolled in the OneBeacon medical plan now have access to Vitals SmartShopper. This program helps participants save money on their medical expenses and earn an incentive for doing so. When your physician recommends one of the included medical procedures, SmartShopper will help you find a cost effective location to have it done.
Here’s how SmartShopper works:
- Your doctor recommends a routine medical procedure or screening.
- You call the SmartShopper personal assistant team at 866.285.7452 or shop online at bcbsmn.vitalssmartshopper.com.
- Have the procedure at one of the highlighted SmartShopper facilities.
- Earn cash and save money on your out-of-pocket costs for the procedure.
There are more than 50 procedures you can earn cash for with SmartShopper, including CT Scans and MRIs, screenings such as mammograms and even surgeries, including knee surgeries. And the cash rewards you can earn can vary from $50 to $500, depending on the procedure and where you have it. A complete list of services can be found here.
The first time you access the SmartShopper website you will need to register for an account. If you select one of the cost effective locations and have your service completed at that location, you will receive the associated incentive via check once the claim has been processed.
